CWA Local 3105 - District 3

We are Union, We are Family, We are Proud

  Document
2024 CWA US disaster relief fund member handbook

If you have been directly affected by Hurricanes and are in need of help, please contact us at the hall

Brothers and Sisters,

I know many of us have already helped in our own ways in the recent Hurricanes that have hit. With the Situation of “drinkable water” in Puerto Rico, I am requesting that all of us get together and try to raise some more money. It seems that the water supply is not getting better at this time. I have read cases in the last few weeks that there has been 75 confirmed deaths from water borne contaminates, and many families that have yet to see anyone with clean drinking water. With this being said, I have made many attempts to the Corporate Monkeys in trying to aid in the water issues in Puerto Rico. Only to be told they have given enough, but will give 20-25% off an order. I am attaching a link to a website of what I believe will help a little bit.

http://shop.pharmacalway.com/product-p/301-1.htm

This is a Water Purification Tablet that will take most of the contaminates out of the water.
  • Potable Aqua Water Purification Iodine Tablets (50 Tablets)
  • Iodine tablets designed to make contaminated water suitable for drinking
  • Tablets prove effective against Giardia lamblia when used as directed
  • Intended for short-term or limited emergency use only
  • Water is ready within 30 minutes;
  • Ideal for campers, travelers, hikers, militaries, and emergency organizations
The Price of each bottle is $8.99 not including shipping and Handling.

If any of you know what it is like not knowing where you will get your next sip of water. I humbly request your feedback and participation in this.

We will be taking donations via our PayPay link on the page. I will personally make sure that all donations are used for the aide in Puerto Rico.

Criteria for Relief

Employees and Retirees affected by State or Federal declared disasters are eligible to receive assistance from the AT&T Pioneers Disaster Relief Fund.  The fund is managed by the AT&T Pioneers volunteers. The AT&T Pioneers National Coordinator and/or National Disaster Relief Chair will designate a committee to verify the need and manage the distribution of money.  Up to $2,000 in emergency funds will be distributed to each approved applicant.

Damage Assessment – applies to primary residences affected by qualified disasters; damage to secondary residence, vehicles, fences, portable buildings, etc. do not qualify for assistance.

Minor Damage --- Home is still habitable.
Major Damage --- Will need repair prior to being habitable.
Destroyed

These categories are used for assessing need.  For example, a need for clothing would not be an example of minor damage.  Clothing replacement would be common for the major or destroyed category.

Examples (but not limited to) of assistance requiring immediate needs:

  • Food lost in refrigerator/freezer due to power outage, coolers
  • Clothing
  • Cleaning supplies, laundry supplies
  • Minor building repairs, tarps on roof, replace a window, repair steps washed away by a storm, etc.
  • Hotel/Motel stays
  • Storage Containers--to store and salvage personal belongings.
  • Bedding and linens

Help for Hurricane Irma and Maria Victims

LOCAL LEADERS

September 26, 2017

Dear local leaders,

Our CWA sisters and brothers need immediate help in Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and Florida, all of which suffered devastating damage from recent hurricanes.

Especially hard hit is Puerto Rico, where Hurricane Irma left countless homes damaged or destroyed. Residents are expected to remain without water or power for weeks or months. Communications remain spotty as CWA members work around the clock to restore mobile phone services.

Puerto Rico is home to two CWA locals, Upagra (TNG-CWA 33225) and CWA Local 3010. Local President Luis Benítez reports the 3010 offices are ruined; officers are securing a temporary site to serve as a member assistance center.

Every dollar donated to the District 3 disaster relief fund will go directly to assist CWA members in need of shelter, dry clothing and basic medical supplies.

Donate online at:  www.cwa-union.org/d3-relief

Online donations are preferred. However, checks may be made out to the "CWA D3 Disaster Relief," designated for "Hurricane Relief" and mailed to:

 D3 Disaster Relief Fund
 CWA District 3
 3516 Covington Highway
 Decatur GA 30032-1850
Donations are not tax-deductible.

The national CWA Disaster Relief Fund also will help our members hurt by Hurricanes Irma, Maria and Harvey.

It will take many months for CWA families to recover from these hurricances and their aftermath. We need everyone's help today to respond to this humanitarian crisis and assist our brothers and sisters.

In Unity,

Christopher M. Shelton

Help for Harvey Victims

LOCAL LEADERS

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

CWA is getting more information about our members and their families who are among the tens of thousands left devastated in Texas by the storms and flooding of Hurricane Harvey.

As our District 6 locals continue to check on members, we’re hearing that many people remain trapped in their homes, unable to get out because of high water and downed electrical wires.   Many businesses are closed with no set date to reopen.

CWA families need our help now.

District 6 has established the CWA Harvey Hurricane Solidarity Fund to make sure that CWA members get the help they need. A committee of CWA local leaders from Texas, established by District 6 Vice President Claude Cummings, will oversee the fund, with the assistance of Administrative Director Judy Graves.

You can donate to the solidarity  fund here https://www.cwa-union.org/harvey

On-line donations are preferred but you can also send a check, payable to CWA Harvey Hurricane Solidarity Fund, to the CWA District 6 office at this address:

CWA Harvey Hurricane Solidarity Fund
c/o Judy Graves
The Parkway, Building One
4801 Southwest Parkway, Suite 115
Austin, Texas 78735

Donations are not tax deductible.

CWA’s Disaster Relief Fund also will be used to help our members hurt by Hurricane Harvey.

It will take many months for CWA families in Texas to start recovering from the destruction of Hurricane Harvey.  Let’s help as much as we can.

In Unity,

Chris Shelton
